Dr. Igor Lednev has started a new company called "SupreMEtric"! In collaboration with the New York State Police, Dr. Lednev is working to create novel technologies for law enforcement agencies to analyze forensic samples. Lab Members Ewelina Mistek, Shelby Khandasammy and Marisia Fikiet were all able to attend SciX 2018 in Atlanta GA this year. All three were able to give oral presentations, while Ewelina and Marisia also gave poster presentations. Marisia was awarded two awards for her poster; The Federation of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies Gold Poster Award and the Society for Applied Spectroscopy Poster Award for Outstanding Spectroscopic Research by a Student Member. Marisia's awards were highlighted on the University at Albany website. |

Congratulations to all our lab members that gave presentations and posters at SciX 2016 in Minneapolis, MN from September 18-23! Claire Muro gave an invited oral presentation titled "Automatic Body Fluid Differentiation by Raman Spectroscopy and Chemometrics" as well as a poster "Identification of individual red blood cells by Raman Microspectroscopy for Forensic Purposes". She was awarded third place for student posters by a panel of judges. Kyle Doty also gave an invited oral presentation titled " A Raman 'Spectroscopic Clock' for Bloodstain Age Determination" as well as a poster titled "Human and Animal Blood Differentiation using Raman Spectroscopy and Chemometrics". Kyle's poster won one of four awards for best overall poster on Sunday. Additionally Kyle was awarded the Tomas A. Hirshfeld Scholar Award. Dr. Lednev gave three invited talks titled, " DUV Raman Spectroscopy is a Versitile Tool for Probing Protein Aggregation", " Multivaritate Analysis of Raman Spectral Data for the Identification of Body Fluid Traces" and " Two Mechanisms of Tip Enhancement of Raman Scattering by Protein Aggregates". |
| Both Kyle Doty and Dr. Lednev attended the XXV International Conference on Raman Spectroscopy (ICORS 2016) in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil this summer from August 14 - 19th. Kyle gave an oral presentation titled "A Raman 'Spectroscopic Clock' for Bloodstain Age Determination: The First Week After Deposition". | Congratulations to Marisia Fikiet for her fellowship from the U.S. Army Defense Forensic Science Center (DFSC)! Marisia's fellowship included funding for two new Raman spectrometers, including a portable hand-held instrument, which the DFSC purchased and Marisia will transfer the lab's method to. She will then travel to the DFSC in Georgia to train scientists there on the intruments. | |
